I have just had a very short telephone conversation with Shugs, the "support driver" who was currently somewhere in or near France at a service station, filling the car with fuel.
After just a few seconds, the phone disconnected and the recorded voice informed me that the call could not be continued. Short call or not, they're there, they made it.
We spent the best part of an hour last night filling the car with everything imaginable that one may think as essential and necessary for a 2 week camping/cycling adventure, 1000 miles down the mountainous roads of Italy. And we have more than enough. The list is too long to go into detail, but we have 3 different types of coffee making devices and enough equipment to make Masterchef finalists blush.
Anyway, lucky for me, I only have a short two hour flight to Milan before I hop on the train to Como, which should only take a half hour to arrive at the start line of the bike ride. I'm pleased, and so much so not to be in the car on a 15 hour jaunt across France, Belgium, Switzerland then Como. I hope they're still up for a beer when they get there around 9pm local time. I expect to be at the hotel (the only hotel on the trip) at about 6:30pm local time.
Be sure to stay tuned!!
P.s photos will be posted as often as I find opportunities to take them
